How We Got Here
Trial & Perseverance
In 1968, when the author initiated the construction of Hijaz Mosque, a truck belonging to the Lahore Encroachment arrived and, within moments, demolished the mosque walls, reducing them to rubble. Upon learning of this incident, Mr. Mir Salahuddin, whose residence was adjacent to the mosque, was deeply distressed. He accompanied me to meet the Trust’s Town Planner, Mr. Irshad Ahmed, and requested his cooperation in the construction of the mosque. However, he categorically stated that he would never allow a mosque to be built during his lifetime, though he would fully support the construction of a park or a fire brigade station. Shortly thereafter, the said Town Planner was suspended.
